iRead Program

The iREAD book and lecture is now a seminal event on the fall university calendar. It is the only reading, and the only intellectual experience, that the entire Washburn community of learning have in common. In a fragmented age, the ability to talk to one another about a common text is powerful.

The iREAD program teaches first-year students the core values of our academic community, and helps them transition from high school graduates into university scholars. Through the author’s on-campus lecture and class discussions in WU 101, the iREAD program shows students how to engage with one another as scholars by modeling and facilitating a dialogue among members of the Washburn community of learning.

Common reading programs like iREAD have been implemented across the country, and best practices indicate that purchasing the book for first-year students, and distributing it to them at New Student Orientation during the summer, facilitates a more successful transition from high school to college.

Consider supporting this outstanding program! A donation of only $15 purchases an iREAD book for one student.
