The School of Nursing co-operates a primary care clinic with the local behavioral health community center in Topeka. Many of the patients who have chronic and serious mental health conditions are required to take medication that increase the patient's weight.
To provide a culturally-appropriate health care experience, such as having a bariatric exam table in the primary care clinic, would help both the nursing faculty who run the clinic, and the patient, have a better experience when receiving primary care services.
Money donated toward this project will go toward the purchase of a bariatric bed in the primary care clinic benefitting the patients, faculty and students learning how to provide proper care.
