You already know him. You already love him. He’s the sharpest-dressed, high-stepping, crowd-hyping icon in all of DII athletics… MR. ICHABOD! From firing up Yager Stadium on game days to dancing his way through Homecoming, cheering on the Bods at basketball games, or surprising fans with his latest hilarious prop or costume, Mr. Ichabod brings the spirit wherever he goes. And now—we’re asking for YOUR help to keep him looking dapper, moving safely, and representing Washburn with pride!
Why Ichabod Needs You
Being the face of Washburn University is a big job! To keep him performing at his best, our mascot program relies on support from generous alumni like you.
Costume Needs
- Repairing, cleaning, and refreshing his classic suit (he does sweat in there, folks)
- Replacing and upgrading costume pieces to keep him safe, cool, and comfortable
- Adding fun new accessories, seasonal outfits, and gameday props
- Laundry supplies like detergent, disinfectant for heads, washer/dryer, iron, and steamer
Gameday Magic
- New props that get fans on their feet (foam signs, spirit flags, themed accessories)
- Special appearances at campus events, community outreach, and pep rallies
- Travel for local charitable appearances and university-approved events
Competing With the Best
- Mascot camp fees to help Ichabod sharpen his character and learn to create fun family friendly improv skills.
- Travel, lodging, and gear needed to represent Washburn on the big stage at the ESPN Wide World of Sports National Mascot Competition.
Supporting the Students Behind the Mascot
- Funding additional scholarship opportunities for our talented students who bring
- Mr. Ichabod to life.
- Helping ensure they have safe, durable, well-maintained mascot equipment and athletic training needs.
All requests and funds go directly to supporting the care, maintenance, and operational needs of the University mascot, including,
- Costume repair, replacement, cleaning, or upgrades
- Travel costs associated with official mascot duties
- Mascot training, competition, and development
- Branding updates that meet university standards
- Scholarships for students serving as the mascot
