Every year, students from Washburn University Black Student Union have the opportunity to join peers from across the Big XII at a premier leadership conference. However, travel costs often stand between our students and this life-changing experience. Your gift removes that barrier.
When our students attend the Big XII Conference of Black Student Government, they do not attend workshops, they transform into the leaders our campus and community need.
Students who attend this conference return to campus equipped to create real change. Through immersive workshops and keynote sessions, students develop the critical thinking and strategic planning abilities that define effective leaders. Connections with student leaders, administrators, and professionals across the Big XII conference open doors for mentorship, collaboration, and career opportunities. Cross-cultural engagement with diverse student bodies prepares our students to lead in an increasingly interconnected world. From public speaking to active listening, students refine the professional communication skills essential for any career path.
This fund is unique because students not only benefit personally, but they also bring their knowledge back to Washburn and the community at large. Conference attendees synthesize what they have learned and present it to our campus community at the yearly Apeiron (an event that allows students to showcase original research, scholarship, creative activities, and community engagement activities in a setting similar to a professional meeting). Hence, one student's attendance can influence hundreds of peers.
