In 2026, organizations around Topeka are hosting art from the Washed Ashore Project, which creates giant sea life sculptures out of debris collected from beaches. Washburn University, the Topeka Zoo, NOTO Art Center, Topeka Public Schools, and other organizations are participating. This initiative will raise our community’s awareness of plastic pollution and encourage conservation.
This project will enable the Mulvane Art Museum to hold a community event related to the Washed Ashore Project. This fun outdoor program will celebrate environmental conservation through art activities that utilize recycled materials. In addition to the participating Topeka organizations, a few potential Washburn partners would be the Biology, Education, and Art departments.
Funds raised would support:
-Fees for guest artists to lead recycled art activities
-Art materials
-Entertainment
-Outdoor event logistics (tent rentals, security/facilities services, etc.)
-Promotion
Donations to this project will support the Friends of Mulvane Art Museum Program Fund.
