Thanks to generous donations to the Art Department's Art Enhancement Program int he past three years from the Day of Giving as well as other sources, the art department
- Developed and offered two new courses: Jewelry and Art Metals and Introduction to Enameling
- Purchased equipment required to offer metals and enameling courses
- Broadened the educational opportunities for students
- Eliminated the burden for students to purchase expensive materials and supplies needed for the courses
This project will continue to expand art educational opportunities for Washburn University students and community members with the purchase of additional tools and materials, including safety equipment for these two courses.
Donations will help broaden the impact of this program offering jewelry and enameling workshops to high school students and art teachers attending our annual High School Art Day, a recruiting event that brings about 150 high school students and their art teachers, many of whom are Washburn graduates, to campus to experience a full day of art workshops with our faculty. Donations will help cover the cost of materials and supplies for workshops.
Success funding of this project will help the Art Department meet the needs of students, art teachers, community members, also high school students who wish to expand and build on their design problem solving and artmaking technical skills. No other venue in the Topeka area offer this type of instruction in jewelry and enameling; therefore, these courses and the equipment and materials, will fill a gap in creative instruction at Washburn University, in the community, and in the surrounding area. The last two offerings of these courses were filled to capacity. Giving financially to this project will enable the Art Department to purchase materials required to teach jewelry and enameling and to eliminate fees for Washburn students.
Donations to this project will support the Art Department Equipment Fund.
