Books are being banned from public school libraries at an alarming rate. These books explore topics such as diversity, history and self-awareness. This project seeks funding to purchase books that are currently banned in schools districts around the country. These books, along with information, advocacy resources/ideas and an invitation for a discussion will be given to Ichabods on campus during the spring semester.
It is important that students in public schools have access to these books so they can learn more about themselves and the world around them. One way we can support efforts to keep books in public schools is to inform and educate our Ichabods on the dangers of banning books, what books are typically banned, what reasons are given to ban books and how to be an advocate against banning books. This will give them firsthand knowledge so they can be advocates in our community and beyond. One of the best ways to do this is to provide Ichabods with the opportunity to read a banned book and learn more about it and other books that have been banned. By giving our Washburn students a book to read, thoughtfully consider and pass along to others with a message of advocacy, we can help create Ichabods that will be active in the pursuit of access to books for all individuals.
Your gift toward the Banned Books for Bods project should be directed toward the Education Dept Equipment, Technology, and Resources Fund.
