In May 2024, 20 students from major programs across campus will travel to London, England, to explore the relationship between sports and culture. In the semester leading up to the trip, students will learn about the effects of hosting the Olympic games on a city. The will also learn the rules and history of cricket, rugby and tennis and identify crossovers between society and sports, such as the pop culture hit Ted Lasso. We’ll investigate similarities and differences between sports and society in the United States and England. Some trip highlights are the Lord’s Cricket Grounds, Wimbledon, the 2012 London Olympics facilities, Big Ben, Stonehenge and Richmond (home of Ted Lasso).
One of the biggest obstacles for our students to study abroad is the cost of the trip. We are raising funds to assist these students in experiencing this life-changing study abroad trip. Our goal is to raise $3,000 to help offset student costs.
Your donation on Day of Giving should be directed to the Kinesiology Department Travel Fund and will help support our students and give them a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!
