The Bonner Scholar program at Washburn University is a multi-year community engagement, leadership development, university honor program. As part of a national network of Bonner programs with the motto “Access to Education. Opportunity to Serve.,” it is a mandate that at least 70% of students admitted to the program have financial need and that all have a heart for service. While every effort is made to find funds to support the education of as many Bonners as possible each year, there are never enough resources to financially support all these outstanding students who each:
- Commit at least 1000 hours and three years to working with a nonprofit organization, public school or governmental organization to help build capacity for the community
- Engage in both academic and co-curricular learning and activities to increase knowledge, skills, understanding and civic participation
- Become leaders and advocates in their community and for the causes they are passionate about
Your gift to support to the Bonner Community Service Scholarship Fund will help us offer three scholarships of $1,000 a year ($500/semester) to students in the program who want to step into leadership positions but would be unable to do so without financial assistance. We want our program to better support Bonner Scholar students in their civic and academic development to become socially responsible, caring leaders who have a positive impact on the community and the world where they live.
On behalf of the Aleshire Center for Leadership & Community Engagement, thank you for your consideration and support of these amazing student leaders on Day of Giving!
