The Mass Media Career Accelerator Fund will allow mass media students to participate in career building activities such as the Spark KC event, a professional career day that connects students to the advertising network in Kansas City.
This fund will also help students cover the entry fees associated with entering their creative work into film festivals or media contests such as the local ADDY awards. Students might also request funds to complete skill or software certifications, such as drone certification, or join a professional organization.
Washburn University has a commitment to opening its doors to all seeking a quality education, but the reality is that the lack of resources can exclude certain students from getting the most out of their Washburn education. Students who enhance their education through these activities gain perspective and confidence, and we want to remove the financial barrier that exists for some of our students.
Karli Bayliss, a mass media senior who attended the fall 2023 Spark KC event, said she was thankful the mass media department was able to cover the cost of her ticket and transportation to the event in Kansas City. We are eager to partner with our alumni and friends to give all mass media students the ability to submit funding requests for these experiences that will further develop their careers, which also allows them to become more competitive in the job market.
Can we count on your support to help fund this initiative, which will put money directly into the hands of our mass media students?
