We need your help to send the next set of champions to the national SkillsUSA Championships from Washburn University Institute of Technology. Our students have been preparing to compete at the SkillsUSA Kansas state championships at the fall leadership conference in Hutchinson. Students who place first in Kansas will compete at the National Leadership & Skills Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, in the summer.
Many of you are already familiar with SkillsUSA – a competition that brings students and industry professionals together to help ensure a skilled workforce. Students compete against the clock and each other while proving their expertise in occupations including computer technology, cabinetmaking, culinary arts, construction, automotive, precision machining and graphic design.
Washburn Tech has a history of being a national leader in producing SkillsUSA champions. The students of Washburn Tech have earned over 650 medals at the state level and 18 medals on the national stage. This includes several students who qualified to compete internationally.
Our success is a result of industry and community support, and this is where we need your help. Your gift on Day of Giving will help send the next set of industry professionals to a proving ground against the best of their industry. It costs approximately $1,000 to send a student to Atlanta to compete on the national stage. Last year we sent 31 students to Atlanta, the largest contingent from Kansas, and they returned home with six medals. This year we hope to send even more. Your donation will help ensure that Northeast Kansas is well represented and supported in the skilled trades.
