Dept. of Sociology & Anthropology

As communities diversify and welcome new cultures and new perspectives, an understanding about the people and institutions that make up society becomes more and more relevant. The sociology and anthropology programs are well-placed to address these education needs for Washburn students, yet the department has historically struggled for funding opportunities for students to excel. Our courses are focused on wider outreach and making the connection between scholarship and the community. Further, our programs also negotiate the two needs of academic excellence and practical skill building to ensure students have a variety of futures ahead.

We have the curriculum, faculty and resources to introduce the future generation to the subtle relationships between humans, society and culture, and we hope to share those tools widely. During Washburn’s Day of Giving, your support can go directly to aspiring scholars and their efforts of academic excellence. In order to grow the programs and provide the resources to focus on their studies, we are hoping to increase our ability to financially support Washburn students in need. Your contribution to those goals could have wide-ranging benefits for many hard-working Ichabods.
