Overview
Help students and faculty in every discipline create engaging online learning experiences by funding the Mabee Library's Day of Giving project to increase opportunities for students to stream educational videos.
Need
In spring 2020, the arrival of COVID-19 in Shawnee County created a dramatic need for educational video streaming at Washburn University. This need has since exploded; most of our courses now have online components as faculty continue to fulfill their educational needs in the virtual environment. This shift has exposed the insufficiency of the Mabee’s current, highly limited, video streaming services and hindered our ability to serve the Washburn community of learning in this pandemic moment.
Rationale
Video streaming platforms allow university students and faculty to conveniently stream high-quality documentaries, independent films, and cinema into the virtual and physical classroom to create innovative learning experiences. Washburn faculty from across the disciplines have inquired about the Mabee’s ability to support these kinds of high-impact learning experiences, but to date we have not been able to meet the majority of faculty requests.
Educational video streaming services allow students and faculty to view films for free with their university library account, but the licensing costs to the Mabee are expensive, sometimes as high as $150 per title per year. Your gift will help Mabee Library purchase additional video streaming services and licenses to offer more robust and diverse learning resources for our students and faculty.
Equip our students and faculty with resources that breathe innovation, excitement and discovery into the virtual classroom!
