As the opioid epidemic continues to gain momentum and pandemic-related substance use problems are on the rise, we need effective leadership in addiction counseling to support healthy families, safe communities and a sober workforce.
Substance use problems have had a major impact on Kansas families. Over the past 10 years, our state has seen an increase in overdoses while local authorities report seeing record numbers of dangerous substances in our communities. Amidst a national opioid epidemic, pandemic-related substance use problems are on the rise. Kansas desperately needs to respond by training effective leaders and addiction counselors in order to provide accessible treatment services. When one person gets treatment, their entire family and community see the benefits.
The master of arts in family and human services/addiction counseling program works with our students to build a solid foundation of evidence-based prevention and counseling approaches, while critically exploring promising newer practices, such as tele-counseling, trauma-informed care and harm reduction. Our coursework is available online, providing access to working professionals and students in remote areas. We are approved by the Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board and the National Association for Addiction Professionals to prepare students to meet the highest level of addiction counseling licensure in the state. Effective treatment and prevention are both humane and responsible, offsetting the human and fiscal costs of substance-related abuse, accidents, illness and incarceration.
Please consider supporting scholarship funds for our students as they embark on a career path of service to the greater community.
