The Irwin Blitt Fellowship is awarded annually to a Washburn University student who works with the Rita Blitt Legacy Collection during the academic year to research and develop a curatorial project under the guidance of museum staff and a faculty mentor. The student curates an exhibition, creates an interactive multi-media project, presents a choreographed dance performance or musical composition, or completes a research paper or catalogue. The fellowship was created by artist Rita Blitt, h ’19, in honor of her husband upon his passing. Three Blitt Fellowships have been awarded to date and additional donations are needed to keep the fellowship open for future student participation. The student fellow receives a stipend of $5,000 for the academic year, as well as funding for supplies, and the faculty mentor receives a $500 stipend.
The Rita Blitt Legacy Collection at the Mulvane Art Museum offers exponential opportunities for students to engage with Rita Blitt's work to create exhibitions, performances, compositions and interpretive programs that enable us all to explore art, music, dance and life.
