The Exercise Science Laboratory Fund is used to purchase equipment and supplies for use in our teaching and research laboratory. Our students use the equipment and supplies in the classroom and in collaborations with faculty as part of a teaching and research laboratory. More specifically, examining human performance and athletic development. In addition, the equipment and supplies will be used for student research projects, community programs partnered with Washburn University, and collaborations with athletics and other departments across the university.
Your gift will help immediately fill the teaching and research needs for the Exercise Science Laboratory. It will assist with the growth and further development of the laboratory equipment and supplies. Washburn students will be using the donations towards equipment and supplies in multiple courses, university and community collaborations, and conducting research with the guidance of Dr. Eric Mosier, providing further collaborations with community programs and Washburn University athletics.
We are raising funds to replace outdated equipment and invest in modern equipment that will be used for multiple courses, research projects, and collaborations. More specifically, our main fundraiser goal is to raise funds for a Cardio Coach Pro V02 max and resting metabolic rate cart with supporting supplies. That will be used to determine one’s metabolic rate (metabolism) and aerobic capacity across multiple intensities. The device will be used within many courses, research projects, and assist with university and community collaborations.
More specifically, it will first be used for collaborations with the Washburn University athletics. Determining the maximal aerobic capacity (VO2 max) of each cross-country and long-distance runner. Followed by determining the aerobic capacity of other aerobic athletes. In addition, the Cardio Coach Pro will assist with the fitness assessments among the Topeka Police Department SWAT Teams by determining the maximal aerobic capacity and resting metabolic rate.
We have a few individual small goals as we raise funds towards our main goal. These small and larger fundraising goals are listed below. Thank you to those who consider giving this year and support our teaching and researching endeavors.
