Thanks to generous donations in 2023 and 2024 from Day of Giving as well as other sources, the art department
This project will continue to expand art educational opportunities for students with the purchase of additional tools and materials for these two courses. In addition to offering the jewelry course in the future, we will also broaden the impact of your donations by offering jewelry and metals workshops to high school students attending our annual High School Art Day, a recruiting event that brings about 130 high school students and their art teachers, many of whom are Washburn graduates, to campus to experience a full day of art workshops with our faculty. Donations will help cover the cost of materials and supplies for jewelry-related workshops. Successful funding of this project will help the art department meet the needs of students, art teachers, community members and high school students who wish to expand and build on their artmaking skills. No other venue in the Topeka area offers jewelry, metals or enameling instruction or has equipment for student use (to the best of our knowledge currently). Therefore, this course and the equipment and materials to offer the course, will fill a gap in creative instruction at Washburn, in the community and in the surrounding area.
Giving financially to this project will enable the art department to purchase the additional tools and supplies required to teach metals and art jewelry and to eliminate fees for Washburn students.
