Dept. of Social Work

Social workers strive to make a difference in the lives of individuals, families and communities. These dedicated professionals care about people and communities in need and help them to achieve their goals. Social workers also value social justice and advocate for policies that promote equity and improve the lives of marginalized communities. Partnering with individuals, families and communities to find solutions to challenges and working to improve living and working conditions in communities are the hallmarks of the social work profession. The bachelor masters degree programs at Washburn are nationally accredited by the Council on Social Work Education, and graduates consistently have success in acquiring rewarding jobs in local, regional and national social service agencies.

Your Day of Giving gift can support the social work department as we continue to provide programs and opportunities. Through your generosity, the department will stay true to its mission of the pursuit of excellence and will make an impact in these key areas:

  • Scholarships make all the difference in providing the access and opportunity for students to attend the social work program at Washburn.
  • Students are required to have a field placement in both the undergraduate and graduate social work program. Sometimes their placements require background checks, CPR training, etc. Many times very expensive trainings or tests that can be upwards to $75-100 each.
  • Our licensing workshop helps prepare both undergraduate and graduate students for the state licensing exam. Other universities offer this for a fee. Donations allow us to offer it for free.
  • Our students often are recognized by our national honor organization by being offered membership based on their outstanding GPA or honor cords at graduation. There are fees associated with these accomplishments that students can not afford and therefore do not sign up for the recognition. Donations would assist in paying these fees for students.
