The Eugene Williams Student Scholar Fund helps KTWU, the regional PBS station located on Washburn’s main campus, provide paid internships for students (primarily from the Washburn University mass media program) which enables them to engage with and learn from the station’s production, engineering, marketing and development team members.
Like many public media markets, KTWU utilizes a tremendous amount of student and volunteer assistance in the production of its many local productions such as "Working Capital," "I’ve Got Issues," "Inspire," "Washburn University Vespers" and more. Without them it would be exceedingly difficult for KTWU to provide the amount and variety of quality content they have delivered for over 60 years.
Students who work at the station as interns can learn about and gain firsthand experience with camera, sound board and teleprompter operation, video editing, community engagement events, the production of station marketing materials and more. The goal of these interactions is to help make them ready, upon graduation, to take their place in a wide range of fields including online broadcast and print journalism, media analysis, film and video production, advertising sales, brand marketing or public relations.
