The African American and African Diaspora Studies (AAADS) minor exposes undergraduates to African American and African history and culture through an interdisciplinary approach. At the same time, the AAADS minor actively promotes campus dialogue where students can analyze issues of race, power, and social justice from an informed perspective. The AAADS minor and affiliated faculty, staff, and students are ultimately engaged in creating a campus and community climate of inclusion and respect. Presently, the minor program has no associated budget making it difficult to not only recruit undergraduate students, but also provide professional development for faculty to offer courses that focus on the African American and African experiences.
Your donation to the AAADS enhancement fund will provide student scholarships, assistance with faculty professional development, opportunities for community engagement, and general program support to strengthen this essential minor program. Washburn’s African American and African Diaspora Studies prepares Ichabods to contribute to the creation of a more socially just world, an effort we can all support and benefit from.
