The Heartland Council of the Institute of Management Accountants sponsors a Student Leadership Conference for students in accounting, finance, and information technology at colleges in the Kansas-Oklahoma-Arkansas-Missouri region each year.
Regional
This year, the conference is on Saturday, April 18, 2020, noon to 6 pm at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
The School of Business would like to send 16 students to this conference. Students hear keynote speakers on current topics in accounting, finance and technology and participate in workshops to develop skills in leadership, career development and successful transitions from school to work. Students network with professionals in the region’s IMA chapters, interact with business students from many colleges and bring back knowledge and skills to take their places as leaders on campus.
The School of Business would like to send 16 students this year at a cost for registration and transportation of $65 each for a total of $1,040.
National
The Institute of Management Accountants presents a National Student Leadership Conference for students in accounting, finance and information technology at colleges across the United States in November 2020 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The School of Business would like to send 10 students to this conference. Students hear keynote speakers on current topics in accounting, finance and technology and participate in workshops to develop skills in leadership, career development and successful transitions from school to work. Students network with professionals in the region’s IMA chapters, interact with business students from many colleges, and bring back knowledge and skills to take their places as leaders on campus.
Last year, the conference was hosted at Charlotte, South Carolina, and nine students from Washburn attended. Students were able to fly to Charlotte and participate throughout the three day event based on the funds provided by Washburn alumni as well as contributions from the local chapter of IMA. This year, the students will again have to travel by airplane to Pittsburgh and stay overnight to take advantage of this opportunity. Costs are estimated to total: $8,000 or $800 per student and detailed below:
- Registration at $175 each
- Transportation: $425 each
- Lodging: $1,500 (total)
- Meals: $50 each
