Serving students through the University motto, Non Nobis Solum, not for ourselves alone, the Student Victim Assistance Fund will financially help students leave or avoid situations that create a challenging environment for completing their degree. This fund will directly support the basic needs of students in these situations. The fund may also support the education and prevention of domestic and sexual violence.
The Need
Unfortunately, there are students on campus negatively impacted by the actions of others. This sets up an environment that is not safe or conducive to learning. Faculty and staff may encounter students in abusive relationships or other unhealthy situations. Students may fear that if they leave their abusive partner, they may no longer have the financial means to afford their education and living expenses for them and the family members they support. Counseling Services and the University Campus Advocate will identify these students and the fund will support them. No one should have to leave school to be safe or stay in an abusive relationship in order to get an education.
Impact on Students
Money raised through this fund will provide an immediate impact to those in need. Often these students don’t know where to go or are afraid to ask for help. If part of this fund is used for the education and prevention of sexual violence, Washburn will be able to impact hundreds of students across campus.
